Hope is a 7 week old golden pup. She came into RAGOM with an injured rear leg which is a torn Achilles tendon. She is a typical pup, full of life, love, and energy. We will be exploring options for Hope's leg. If you would like to sponsor her she would love you forever and if you are interested in adopting Hope keep an eye on her page for updates and when she will be ready for her forever home.

From Hope's forever family...

I'm sure many people may be wondering where sweet little Hope with the pink cast on her hind leg landed. My husband and I were lucky enough to win the approval of her foster family and bring her to central Iowa. She is growing like a weed (47 pounds) and her leg is as strong and normal as ever. Even on the ice we have received thus far, she has had no problems getting around.

Hope was greeted by her big sister Shiloh, who we adopted in December of 2007. Shiloh spent the first 5.5 years of her life in a puppy mill in Arkansas. Once turned over from there she went to an auction in Oklahoma and was then sent to RAGOM. A wonderful foster family took her in and showed her the ropes to being a normal golden. When we adopted Shiloh, we had a resident golden role model who we sadly had to put down in September due to cancer. We decided it was in Shiloh's best interest to have a second dog in the house and who doesn't want a home filled with goldens? Hope and Shiloh are like 2 peas in a pod. They play all day long, love walking twice a day (except when it was 50 below last week) and are spoiled rotten on an hourly basis. They are living the true golden life.

When Shiloh first arrived, she was terribly afraid of my husband. She was afraid of door ways, was timid, and just not sure of herself. She has fully blossomed and loves all people, male and female. She is out of her shell and loving life to the fullest. She and Hope are inseparable. I have included pictures from Christmas morning.

The real winners in these adoptions were my husband and me. They bring us more joy and smiles than we could ever hope for. Thank you RAGOM for all you do for these wonderful dogs, and we can't thank the foster families enough who believed in us and gave us the opportunity to raise two beautiful girls. I can guarantee they will continue to know nothing but love and fun from this day forth.

Hope went home with her new family Friday night! While we miss her dearly you can see in the photos she is in the best possible home with a wonderful RAGOM sister Shiloh! We could not be happier for her to begin her new life with such a wonderful family! Congrats Amy and Chris on your new girl!

Here are some final photos of Hope in her new home!  She is getting a long well with her new sister (RAGOM dog) Shiloh!  She looks very happy!  We miss you Hope but know there is no better place in the world for you to be!  Good luck Hoper-do!

I am pleased to say that Hope has finally found her forever family.  She will have a RAGOM fur sister Shilo and a beautiful home and yard to play in.  She will also have the biggest tub of toys any dog has ever seen.  We have had Hope in our home for about three months and have had to help her back to health but never saw the love of life not show in her eyes.  As hard as it is to say goodbye, we will do so next Friday knowing she will have the most wonderful life possible with the "P" family.  She will be living pretty close to us so it will be great to see her grow.  We love you Hope, we know you will have a wonderful life!

Hope continues to do well.  She is going in on Tuesday for her spay as the vet sees signs of her first heat nearing.  She has gotten all but 2 of her adult teeth and lost all her baby teeth.  Based on her teeth the vet believes she is approx 20 weeks old.  Here are some new photos.

This weekend Hope went to visit some friends of the family, one of which is pictured below. She is the sweetest girl who has such a big heart for dog (I anticipate her being a RAGOM foster when she grows up). As you can see Hope really loves her too! Hope got a long well with their resident dog and spent a great deal of time playing in the yard and having a game of tug.  She will fit in well with any family willing to do some training with her to help her learn how to be a member of the family.

Hope is available - if interested please email placementatragom [dot] org

Just a new photo to share...

Sunday, September 14, 2008

Well Hope really is a pup and as her leg is starting to feel better she is starting to be more and more active. Tonight she got a hold of the green bunny and as you can see he no longer has any stuffing! She had a good time doing it but now is sad she doesn't have the bunny to play with.

She will be visiting Ames for her check up this coming week and with any luck we will get some answers on what the future might hold for Hope. We will report in when we know more and hopefully she is on the road to recovery, a normal life, and her forever family soon!

Hope had her first bandage change today which revealed the beginning of an infection so she is now on antibiotics, as well as two pain medications.  She is using the leg well but does seem to be in a pretty good amount of pain so they upped the medication a bit.  She is now sporting a bright green bandage and as wonderful as ever.  We feel terrible leaving her in her play area when we know she would prefer to be out playing but she needs to keep on the down low for awhile yet.  I remind her daily how in a few months when she is all better she will never even think of this hard time again.  I look forward to seeing her run like a normal dog!  Found one new photo of Hope to share.

Hope visited me at work. She was a real hit! She got to meet our NBC News Reporter Sunny Layne and got a photo taken with her! We are working to keep exposing her to new things and make sure she gets as much socialization as possible.

Hope will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday the 19th at the Iowa State Vet Hospital to make a decision on the best route to go with her leg. We will let you know as soon as we find out the route we are going to pursue.
