This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

We would like to introduce Hunter!   He is a beautiful Golden/Cocker Spaniel mix that weighs 40 lbs.   He's a mini-retriever and the perfect size for any family!   His cutest feature has to be his head tilt with his ears up when you talk to him or he's curious!   He's been with us for about 4 days now and we've had a great time getting to know him.

First of all, he is a great house guest!   He's fully house trained and will sit by the door to let you know he has to go outside.   He knows all the basic commands of sit, stay, lay down, and shake as he has been to obedience classes.   He will sleep through the night in his kennel and if you'd prefer him on the bed, I'm sure he won't complain!

His only minor medical maintenance will be wiping his eye on a daily basis as he has a clogged tear duct, so it just looks like his eye is watering.   Wiping it is just to keep the tear stain off and the area clean.   He also gets occasional hot spots which seem to be minimized by a certain shampoo and conditioner when bathing him along with grain free food.

Hunter was lovingly surrendered by his family and would love to join a new family for the Holidays.   He just turned 1 yr. old in October, so he does have some energy to burn.   A fenced in yard would be great for him to run in (he's fast!) or another active dog would be great for him to play with.   He'll still need daily exercise and play time with toys.   He can empty the toy box quicker than any foster I've seen plus carry 3 toys in his mouth to bring to you!

Hunter is a great, young boy that is going to be an amazing dog for a lucky family.   If you would like to know more about him or meet him, please let your placement advisor know!

"Hello again, everyone!Sorry it's been so long since my last "pup"date- I've been a pretty busy puppy the last week or so!First of all, I've been my normal self at home- sleeping on the dog bed at night, waking up, eating, playing with my foster sister, Sadie, napping in the humans' bed, humans come home from work, eating, playing, sleeping, you know the scoop!   Sadie and I had our foster friend, Charleston over to see if he could behave around our kitties, Thor and Allie.  Needless to say, he was a big chicken!  Not going to lie, both Sadie and I are a little afraid of Thor, though.  So I guess we can't blame him! This weekend, I got to accompany Sadie and the Humans to a big dog play area, filled with 30+ tan furry pals!  Whoa!  It was so much fun.  It was Sadie's former foster sister Kraelyn's birthday party!  I was such a good boy.  I was friendly towards the big humans, gentle with the little humans (with supervision), and I was a great friend to all the fluffy doggies around me.  And WOW, playing with 30 dogs can really wear a little guy like me out.  Since they were, you know, like 20-30 lbs heavier than me.  I gave them all a run for their money, don't worry!

What's next for me?  Well, I'm loving life here at my foster home, but I'd love to meet you and see if you can be my perfect match!  I hear Valentine's Day is coming up- maybe I can snuggle in with you and become part of your family!"

Hello again, Hunter fans!

Not much going on in the wonderful world of Hunter- just being the jolly boy he is. We went to the vet yesterday for annual shots, and got a clean bill of health, and of course, extreme loving from the vet. He adored him and said he's a really good boy! So, you can rest assured that he is officially up to date and ready to go! He wasn't quite sure what to think of the hustle and bustle of the vet (there were a lot of people there, to be fair), but he did very well. He also wanted to check out every person coming through the door- not so much the dogs that came with the humans, but definitely the humans. Many commented that he's the perfect-sized retriever (and if you're looking for a small one, he's your guy at a petite 40 lbs!).

Hunter has been having a blast playing with our resident dog, Sadie. I looked back at his records and he was born 2 weeks after her (mid-October of 2013), so now you can imagine two 1-year-old dogs running around like hyenas and then crashing for hours after that!

He's also doing really well with our kitties (since we have two of them). Our cats like to provoke chases, even though they act like they don't like it. He is very interested in them, but only when they're running. He'll chase them for about 5 feet, let out a "BOO!" (his bark at them literally sounds like that), and then walk away and play with Sadie. He's never tried to attack my kitties- well, only with love and licks. :)

Bathtime!

He's 100% potty trained, has great recall, can obey basic commands, and wants nothing more than to melt into your side for tons of snuggles! Think he could be your couch potato? Let your Placement Adviser know!

Hello, all you fans!

Hunter has been doing so well in our home.  We love him to pieces, and have nothing but good things to say about him!

Hunter wanted to thank Angie W. and Jason, Renee, Ava, Emily, and Logan for the fabulous holiday icons- he thanks you with very happy, slobbery, kisses. :-)

Nothing much has changed from the last "pup"date- all wags, smiles, fetch, and ALL play with the resident dog, Sadie.  They're both a little over a year old, so why even leave the home?  The entertainment is right here!

Hunter is so funny- when you talk to him, he always tilts his head, as if he is inquisitive about what you have to say.  He loves to lick snow, as I found out a few mornings ago when he wasn't having the whole "time to come inside" chat.

However - we're having a "problem" here- Hunter is onto our games.  At bedtime, he realizes that the word "bedtime" is also synonymous with crate time.  He will melt your heart with guilt by running and jumping onto your bed, laying down right next to your spot, and will give you those big brown puppy eyes. So....naturally.....he has now claimed a spot on the bed. No problems in the middle of the night- so if you have a bed big enough for him to fit into, he would love to claim a piece of that.

Think this snuggly bed hog can claim a piece of your home?  Let your Placement Adviser know!

"FINALLY, I stole the keyboard away from my foster parents!

Hello again, everyone!  Wow, has life changed for me since my last "pup"date.  Let me fill you in of my latest journeys:

I moved!  I loved my previous foster family, and they loved me back, but I decided I needed a change of scenery.  So, now I live in Eden Prairie with a crazy 1-year-old Golden named Sadie, 2 cats, and 2 crazy humans.  It's been a lot of fun, and I think the humans would agree that I have been pretty good thusfar.

I haven't had an accident yet in the house- I always go to a door and whine to let them know when I need to use "the facilities".  I also share toys and food well with my foster sister, Sadie.  I have yet to get snarky with the humans, too.  So far, so good!  I haven't seen any tiny humans since arriving here, so the humans can't say much about that category, seeing I have a past with them that didn't work out.  I would say, though, that I'd probably be just fine with older kids (teenagers).

So far, I've been treating my kitty foster siblings well, too.  I like to bark at them, but I'm more afraid of them- I hear that the big kitty (Thor) gave one of my foster parents a black eye!  So, I keep my distance.

Did I mention that I love houseguests?  The humans have had lots of people over since I've arrived, and I am very respectful and love giving them attention!  Sometimes, they bring even more dogs over to play- it takes me a few minutes to ease into the puppy playtime, but after the intros, everything is just fine.

Do I sound like a perfect dog, or what?  Foster Mom and Dad think I'm superbly easy to take care of, and I love nothing more than snuggling into the couch or bed and keeping them warm.  Think I could fit into your lifestyle?  Let your Placement Adviser know- I'd love to meet you!"

Hunter has been doing great at our house!  He does all of his business outside and has not chewed on anything that's inappropriate.  The presents under the tree are still all wrapped up even!  He's great to have around and will cuddle up on the couch by me to watch TV  or work on the computer.

Hunter will bark when I put him in the kennel to leave, but that has been improving and if I give him a Kong he won't bark at all.  He sleeps through the night and then is ready to go outside, eat and play in the morning.  He can be mouthy at times and a little rough with it, but we've been working on it and if we say "ouch" he responds well to it.  We've seen a lot of improvement already in the couple weeks he has been with us.

So, now that Hunter has been with us for 2.5 weeks  and we've gotten to know him and he's settled in, I do want to bring up the reason he was surrendered to RAGOM.  There was a biting incident with one of the three kids in his previous home that required medical attention (a few stitches).  I don't have all the details and circumstances surrounding the incident.  What I do know is since he has been at our house we have not seen any aggression or had any biting.  He has growled if I pet him while eating, but that is something that can be worked on with hand feeding and some other tactics once he bonds with and trusts his new family.  He has NOT resource guarded his toys or plastic bones from us or our dog.  I can take the bone out of his mouth, he takes treats very nicely from our hands and he reads our dogs signals very well.  If our resident dog shows her teeth to him he will drop a toy or bone and back off from her.  This is the reason I believe Hunter would do better in a home with teenage children.  I don't believe Hunter should be labeled as a biting dog, but I do believe it is something you have to be aware of and possibly take an extra step to prevent a negative incident from happening.  If he will have the occasional visit with kids that are dog savvy and supervised I wouldn't be afraid of that.

Overall, Hunter is such a beautiful boy and great dog.  He just has some occasional energy to burn off, loves playing and LOVES his people.  He'll need some consistent training since he's young, but he has a great base and isn't a super wild boy.

Hunter wanted me to give everyone an update and let everyone know a few more things about him!  He said that he loves water (which we haven't been able to test since it's so cold!) and he likes riding in cars (that we have tested and is for sure true).  He told us he was a great helper, which he proved by helping us with putting the tree up and decorating it.  The bulbs on the tree look like toy balls, but after being told "no" a couple of times he has left everything alone.  I've included a picture of Hunter with our resident dog right after finishing the tree to show how proud they were!

We were able to cat test Hunter and other than being curious about them, I think a cat would rule the roost and be safe.  He knew to back off when it hissed and he just wanted to sniff the cat or find him if he ran off.

Hunter would prefer if his humans were home more often than they were gone.  He likes to be in the same room as his people and will cry or bark if you do leave or are in a different room.  He does settle down and has not been destructive when left alone.  He does get super excited when you come home!  Hunter loves to cuddle up next to you or can entertain himself with toys if you're not able to at the moment.  He's been good about just chewing on his toys for us.

I was just informed it was time to eat, so I have to run and help the pups fill their bellies!
