He loves attention and has been a joy to have in our home. He gets along great with all people he meets, dogs, and cats. He would do great in just about any home! This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.
Jarvis was lovingly surrendered to RAGOM by a family who felt they could no longer provide the attention and time that he needed. We know this wasn’t an easy decision for them, and we promise to find the perfect forever home for him!
Jarvis is a 6.5 year old neutered male Golden Retriever. He is almost white in color. You may notice his coat seems short in the pictures – prior to coming to RAGOM he had a mishap in a swamp and needed to be shaved down. His coat is growing back and I know he will be even more handsome once it fully grows back in! We found out the first day of him arriving that Jarvis loves water! I filled up our small wading pool for the dogs to keep cool in, and Jarvis was in it before I even got the water running! He also quickly realized that we have a larger pool, and he jumped right in!
Jarvis is fully housetrained and can be crated, although he does whine and bark a bit if he doesn’t want to be crated. We have gated him in a bedroom with our dogs and the living room/kitchen area with our dogs without any issues. So far he hasn’t attempted to get on our furniture (although it’s allowed at our home!). He has been very respectful to food on the counter and hasn’t gotten into anything he shouldn’t. His former family reports that he would sometimes chew up a pillow if he was bored. We have a ton of dog toys and chews out, so we have not noticed this problem with him while he’s been here. He shows no anxieties, is not afraid of storms, and does not resource guard.
His vet visit revealed that he is a very healthy boy! He was updated on vaccinations, had a negative fecal test, and had a heartworm/4dx test. He weighs ** pounds, which is a very healthy weight for him. He has been started on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
Jarvis has previously lived with younger kids and our home has a 9 and 12 year old. He does great with kids of all ages! Of course, his happy, wagging tail may knock into smaller kiddos, but he doesn’t do it on purpose! He has lived with large and small dogs, and we have 3 male Golden Retrievers ages 5, 2, and 6 months that he is great with. We think he would do great with a family with another dog, but at this time, we are not requiring it. An active family that will keep him busy and involve him in their activities would be great for him too. He would also do well going to doggy daycare or the dog park. While he is active and playful at times, he is also happy to curl up on a dog bed with a toy or chew and relax with the family. I would say his energy level is about average for a 6 year old Golden. He has lived with cats and he totally ignores our 2 cats. He shows no interest in squirrels outside.
Jarvis previously was used to an invisible fence, but would sometimes run through it and his recall is less than ideal. Due to this, we are looking for a home with a physical fence (he does not try to jump our 4 foot fence) or someone who is dedicated to keeping him on leash while he’s outside. It is possible that with some more obedience training (which is good for all adopted dogs and their new families!) that he could improve with his recall. He is VERY food motivated! He does need work on a leash, as he pulls very hard. We have started using a gentle leader.
We are so lucky to get to have such a loving, sweet, and happy foster dog! Jarvis would fit with almost any family as long as they had the time to make sure he has enough exercise and they are willing to spoil him and love him like he deserves!
