Lexi 11-420

We began fostering with RAGOM in July of '07. In that 4 1/2 years we took 18 months off from Fostering when we had our son. We resumed fostering about a year ago and now have our 23rd foster dog with us.... Her name is Lexi.

Lexi came to us from a family who had some major life changes and thought it best to surrender her. It is very obvious from the 5 page write up they sent with her that she was loved very much. We will continue that love for Lexi, for we have decided to adopt her ourselves....

In the last several months we have been discussing the reality and probability of us adopting one of our fosters. But it would have to be one that was 'perfect' for our family. Lexi is that pup. She loves our toddler son (which was most important) and is very sweet and gets along great with our resident golden Lucy.

Lexi will be 4 on April 8th. She has wheat allergies which are controlled with medications and she weighs in at 54#. She does great in our home and our routine.

The only drawback to adopting Lexi is we will no longer be able to foster. Fostering has been so rewarding for us and I encourage anyone who is even thinking about doing it to look into it seriously and you will see exactly what I mean.

We will send in some more pics and one last update on Lexi when her adoption is official.

Happy Birthday Lexi!!!

It has been two years since we sent in an update on our little girl...

Lexi came to live with us as our 23rd foster in January of 2012. With having a young toddler son, we were very careful which dogs to foster. I knew the moment she walked into our lives she would not be leaving. We adopted her shortly after she arrived and our young son now had an angel to grow up with him.

Lexi is such a kind soul. She is so loving towards our son and everyone she meets. Her gentle demeanor and her often dorky personality make us smile and laugh all the time. She wants nothing more than to be with you and love you. And if she's not next to you, she is taking a nap on our bed. Sometimes she disappears and goes down to the basement for a quiet nap...

We have gotten her scratching well under control. Her food is grain free and she has benedryl everyday. She still scratches but nothing to be concerned about...

I hope that her first family that surrendered her to RAGOM sees this update so they know that she is doing very well here and she is very, very loved. I know surrendering her was a difficult decision for your family, and I like to think she still remembers you as you gave her a great start in life and it shows.

Today Lexi turns 6 years old and I've attached a few photos of her taken recently. We love her dearly and our son has a great best friend...

Happy Birthday Lexi Belle. We love you!

So Pretty

Happy Birthday Lexi!!! She turned 4 years old today. She is such a happy girl and loves everyone she meets. Yesterday she even helped find a lost dog in the neighborhood. He wouldn't come when called, but when he saw Lexi, he just had to meet her up close and she was happy to oblige and when they met, I was able to grab his collar...

Lexi has been here with us for a little over two months. We have transitioned her over to a high quality, grain-free food and she is doing great with her allergies. She still scratches a little, but nothing worth being concerned about. She is no longer on any prescription meds for her scratching except for some benedryl which is pretty typical for a dog with allergies.

Resting after play

She loves our toddler son and he loves her. Her favorite place is right next to us on the couch and she is just a gem.

Her confidence is up and she walks the neighborhood with her tail held high rather than in between her legs like when she first arrived. I know she has truly realized she is home. And our other resident, Lucy, loves her and playing with her. Lexi has brought out a little bit of youth in Lucy. They are best buds and I think Lucy is realizing that Lexi is here to stay and she likes that a lot.

We've got some candles to go blow out so we'll catch you later.

Thank you RAGOM!!!

Happy Birthday, Lexi!

Lexi has been here a little over 3 weeks. Each day that goes by, it becomes more clear that she is home. She fits in so well here with everything and everyone.

When she arrived here she was a very timid and very submissive. One of the reasons we signed up to foster her is we felt our confident resident Lucy would be a good mentor for her. This has definitely been the case. Lexi is still timid, but she becomes more confident each day. In time she will be strong and confident like Lucy.

Lexi loves our son. She kisses him and plays peek a boo with him and when we build forts in the kitchen, she is the first to join in the fun. Garrett loves her and smiles and laughs when they play.

Lucy is confident and likes to be the alpha. In the past with other fosters, this usually worked out well with a few exceptions. In the case of Lexi, it is a perfect relationship between the two. Lucy loves to play with Lexi and when she's had enough, she'll just lay down while Lexi nibbles at her feet, ears, legs, tail and anything else she can, to try to get her to play some more. Lucy plays possum and it's funny to see Lexi not give up for quite a while.

Lexi grunts here and there when she's happy. She sits and listens well and her recall is great. We love her dearly. Everyone in our home does and that's why we have adopted her.

She came to us with Wheat allergies. She was on some steroids and another medication. We have since switched her food to a high quality, grain free food, given her only grain free treats and added fish oil to her diet. She has reduced her scratching and seems very happy. She still scratches, but we are confident we can eventually get her to a point where her allergies are completely controlled without many (if any) meds.

It's been almost 5 years since we started fostering. Many dogs and many stories and many things learned. I guess we can now officially call ourselves foster failures...

Lucy, Lexi and I pray every night that Mozart will return home safely. And we prayed each night for Kekoa's safe return. He is running with his friend Kainoa now....

Thank you for following Lexi's story. This is her final update. She is home.

And most of all...Thank you to RAGOM for rescuing all 23 of our fosters and allowing us to be part of the start of their golden lives.... It has meant so much to me to live with and love all of these angels...RAGOM is a blessing. And so are these rescued dogs (angels).
