This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Marilyn is a 3-year-old Lab/Beagle mix who found her way to RAGOM in hopes of finding a new home. Marilyn may be pregnant, so we are waiting for all her vaccinations and spay until we know for sure. Hopefully in another 30 days, we should be confident one way or another. She is heartworm negative but tested positive for Lymes which only means she was exposed as she shows no signs or symptoms of the disease. We have started her on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. She had a great wellness exam and weighs 51 pounds, but sure does not look that big. She is a very petite little peanut with a blond/buff coloring and the only dog in the house with short hair. Bath time is easy and she has no issues in the tub or having her nails clipped by me or the vet. Ears were a little dirty, but no infections noted. Fecal was negative.
Marilyn has a great loving personality and not overly demanding of attention, but she does love to be next to you wherever you are. She cozies up with you on the sofa or bed, but not on top of you. She will put her head in your lap if you let her, but it lasts only a very short time and then she moves to the end of the sofa by herself. Marilyn is very sensitive to the tone of a person's voice, and loud voices or the words directed at her will bring her to a cowering position according to notes we received. She was a little hand shy the first couple of days in foster care, but now knows she is only treated by kindness here. Marilyn had one submissive small tinkle on the porch when I reached to pet her head, but has had no further incontinent issues.
Marilyn has had free roam for short periods and does very well. At night, she sleeps in the kennel just to keep her off my bed during the night as I sleep light because of back problems and change positions frequently all night. She does not mind the kennel and easily enters on request. She eats with two of my residents and has shown no signs of resource guarding for anything, including toys. She gets along with everyone except my new foster because he is too interested in sniffing, and she warns him with a growl and nothing else.
Marilyn has not been exposed to cats, but can be cat tested if necessary for adoption purposes. Here, she has the company of large and small dogs and does well. I think she will do well with a family, but she may get overexcited with small toddlers. A fence is not necessary as long as you are committed to a leash or tie-out for safety.
Marilyn is available for adoption and as foster mom, I am willing to have families come and visit while we wait out her questionable pregnancy state. She is one fantastic pup and will make some family a great addition. So let your placement advisor know and we can set a date for you to visit.
