Skippy 10-018

Profile

Meet our new boy, Skippy.  He came all the way from South Dakota to Minnesota and is he ever adorable!  He is housetrained and quite good in the house.   He does get on the furniture and bed, but could be trained to not do so if preferred.  I like to cuddle, so if a foster dog already does get on furniture, I don’t usually discourage it.   My three female Golden Retrievers have all told him how they would like him to behave and he listens well, he doesn’t argue back.  He likes to play with toys, chew bones, socks seem to be a favorite.  Outside in the snow he jumps through the snow, it’s quite fun to watch.

He will be going to the vet on Wednesday a.m. for his neuter surgery and after that will be ready to look for a forever home.  I am not exactly sure yet what will be his ideal home.   He will need someone interested in positive motivational obedience group training and lots of socialization, exercise and love.   I don’t have cats, so don’t know what he would think, but he likely would chase them, but not with intent to hurt, and a quick swipe with a paw would probably put him back a step or two.  He enjoys chasing with my Shiba Inu (small dog) and he’s gentle with her and she eggs him on.  Will write more as we get to know him better.

I am so excited to update my Skippy boy, it's been way too long since I have update information on him.

On August 15, 2015 Skippy earned his MACH!!!! And he earned his MACH at the Golden Retriever trial which couldn't have been a better place for him to earn it.

This took a long time to achieve and during our journey there were times I didn't ever think we would make it.  I am so proud of my boy and the long way he has come over the 5 1/2 years that he has been with me.

Skippy is now officially - MACH Peter Pan Skippy Doo MXB MJS

From Skippy's forever family...

Just wanted to update Skippy, we have been training with Skippy since we adopted him in February 2010. We first started with obedience and then shortly after that moved to agility. Last summer we got Skippy his AKC canine partner registration so that he could compete in AKC Agility Trials. Skippy competed in his first trial in St. Peter MN in October. That first trial was very interesting, Skippy ran a little crazy and didn’t do very well. Skippy was afraid of the teeter and didn’t want to get anywhere near it in his Standard trial. We continued to work with Skippy to get him use to the teeter (it is very common that Golden Retrievers are afraid of the teeter). Skippy competed in his second trial in January in Randolph MN. He qualified his Jumpers With Weaves on Saturday but was still having issues with the teeter in Standard and didn’t qualify again that weekend. After this trial his trainer loaned us her teeter to set up in our house so Skippy could get over his fear of it. With lots of work and lots of treats on the end of the teeter Skippy began to love his teeter. At his third trial in St. Paul in February he was able to get on the teeter but it took too many times to get on and he still didn’t quality his Standard. Skippy qualified another Jumpers With Weaves at St. Paul.

On Sunday April 1, 2012 Skippy competed in his fourth trial. What a long way he has come since his first trial. Skippy qualified his first Standard on Saturday and then qualified his 3rd JWW on Sunday which gave him his AKC Novice JWW agility title.

We are soooooo proud of him. When we first began agility with him we never thought that he would ever be able to compete in a trial. If he thought he did something wrong or if I got upset with myself for making a mistake Skippy would walk of the course and to the nearest door. With lots of encouragement and treats we would bring him back to the course and continue to work with him. We continued to train Skippy because when he was right he loved agility so much we just couldn’t stop the training.

I thank our trainer Kathy P. for all she has done for Skippy, without her help and support with Skippy and his anxiety issues he would not be able to attend agility trials or be the wonderful dog we have today. When we first took Skippy to train he would stress around new people, new dogs and new environments. Today Skippy has no issues with attending agility trials where you get all three rolled up in one to the max.

Peter Pan Skippy Doo NAJ (Skippy) has a youtube site where we post videos of his trials. See Skippy and his sister at bellandskippy on youtube.
