Casper is a mix of Golden Retriever and probably German Shepherd, but he’s very golden-colored. At about five weeks old, Casper and his five siblings were dropped off at a shelter in Alabama. Motherless and abandoned, they came to RAGOM when they were 8 weeks old on a transport to Minnesota. Casper is an active, strong pup, but weighs only 7.8 pounds, so he’s got some weight to put on in the next few weeks before he will be neutered.

Casper and his sister, Elvira , are being fostered together in Sioux Falls, SD. Casper and Elvira play together and then snuggle together in their bed. He is very sweet and responsive to me. He is very dominant with his sister, both in size and temperament.

The pups came with worms and parasites like most puppies and are being treated with two medications. They are already showing signs of wellness and taking advantage of the good and plentiful food they have now.

Casper quickly took to the snow and cold here in South Dakota. He is very adaptable to living in the North. He ran around the yard exploring and chasing his sister.

If you are ready for puppy kisses, training, and being chewed on a bit with puppy teeth, please contact your placement advisor about adorable Casper. He will be rechecked for weight gain and overall health in three weeks and if all is well, he will get neutered then. Once that’s taken care of, he will be ready for a new home.

Foster mom would like to thank Mary M for taking in the puppies when they arrived from Alabama and Katy D for bringing them to me after a weekend of driving rescue dogs from Pine Ridge Reservation in SD.

Casper has been adopted!! Here are pictures of Casper with his new family!

Darling Casper has been here for less than two weeks and he’s gained 4 pounds. I think he’s doing very well. He’s finished his medicine and has recovered from any illness. As a further update, he got his first puppy shots and bordetella shot when he arrived and was given flea preventative.

He is a happy, playful puppy who loves to run around either chasing his sister or being chased. He is curious about his surroundings. When the neighbor’s dogs bark, he takes a big audible sniff and takes in all the sights, sounds and smells of the neighborhood. He stops to listen when he hears the neighbor kids as well. He is alert and so fun to watch as he discovers the world around him. Sometimes it’s a leaf blowing or a stick or a pine cone that has his attention. He seems smart. I watch him go to the newspapers to potty and also outside. He gets lots of ”good boy,” “good Casper” and “good puppy” from me. He’s easily redirected and just plain easy. Once he’s eaten and played for a while, he’s the first to climb into his doggy bed and prepare for a nap. Refreshed, it’s back to play, eat and sleep---the life of a puppy.

Today was bath time and Casper was very cooperative. Then it was snuggle in my lap in a towel to dry off and out popped a furry, sweet smelling Casper.

Casper may have had a different father than some of his litter mates. His mom may have mated with two males. He and his sister look very different. She is black and he is gold. It’s hard to imagine they are from the same litter but whatever their parents were, Casper is a beautiful dog. He has a small white blaze on his forehead and on one side of his nose there are cute brown spots. He has gold mixed in with his creamy coat and a few white paws. His coat is double and fluffy like a Golden puppy. The more I look at him the more beautiful I think he is and he has a personality to match.
