We are very excited to introduce you to Tucker – he’s a beautiful 5 ½ year old golden, tall and handsome with a dark gold coat and a tail that wags constantly. He has settled into our household routine quickly and has excellent manners. He comes and ‘talks’ to you when he needs to go outside, plays nicely with our younger dog and shows respect to our older dogs. We haven’t had a chance to see how he does with cats yet. We’ve been impressed with how well behaved he is although we’re going to have to work with him on his ‘counter surfing’ – he’s a tall boy with a good nose and loves food! He knows basic manners – sit, down, shake – and he has a great smile on top of all that. He has a very endearing habit of doing a happy dance when he realizes he’s about to get fed. And if the happy dance doesn’t charm you, he talks with a soft roo-roo-roo to let you know that he’s very excited about his food. After he eats, he loves to squirm on the floor, talking to himself all the while – he’s really very cute. We have him on a weight management diet right now so he can lose a few of his extra holiday pounds. Tucker has been to the vet where he was polite and passed with flying colors. Tucker has a seizure disorder which is easily controlled by medication twice daily. We’re going to see if his medications might qualify for special discount pricing at one of the drug store chains. He takes his pills readily when they’re hidden in a Pill Pocket or food. Tucker *loves* to go for walks – although he’s very excited initially, he calms down after a few blocks and walks nicely on his leash. I think one of his all time favorite things is going for a car ride – he’s excited to get in the car and I think he’d love to hang his head out the window but the weather is just too cold!

Tucker was returned to RAGOM and will do best in a house without small or very young children. He is a great companion dog and loves to be around people and other dogs. He likes to squeeze in time for a nice nap but also likes to check out the action in our fenced yard and follows us room to room to keep an eye on all that’s going on. He’s a real sweetie!

What can I say, Tucker was a great dog, just a real people lover and a loving companion. I feel very lucky to have been part of his life and to have him be a huge part of mine. Tucker crossed the Rainbow bridge at 10:00 am October 10 after suffering from total kidney failure resulting from his battle with Lyme's disease last year. He suffered significant damage to his kidneys before the Lyme's diagnosis and I was fortunate to have him for this long. That being said, he still died way too young for such a wonderful dog. Godspeed Tucker and keep Chester and Bailey and Kota company up there on the Rainbow Bridge.

You really need to meet Tucker – he is one very happy, upbeat dog.  His house manners are very good and he’s had no accidents in the house whatsoever.  He wakes up happy, really enjoys his meals and likes to follow you around and keep an eye on his people.  He is very excited to play with other dogs, go for a walk (that’s *really* exciting for him) and go for a ride –still  possibly his favorite activity.  He’s very excited to get in the car and once he’s in the garage, you have a hard time talking him out of getting in the car – that’s his primary focus.  When he’s in the car, he really wants to be by the window, watch what is going on and if possible, talk you into rolling the window down a bit so he can enjoy the fresh air.  He really seems to enjoy grooming as well and stands perfectly still until you’re done.  Now that we have a bit of snow and it’s colder outside, he is very willing to come in from exploring the fenced back yard.  When the temperatures were a bit more fall-like, he’d ask to go outside just so he could sit and watch what was going on.  He does a great job of keeping himself entertained and also enjoys a good sturdy chew toy.

Tucker is very motivated by food.  When he first arrived, he was very excited about treats but now that he’s settled into a routine, he’s much more gentle and is taking his treats very tenderly.  We’re still working with Tucker to curtail his counter surfing but honestly, that seems to be the only issue he has.  You’ll be impressed with him if you meet him.  He’s a tall boy, agile, with a lovely coat and ready golden retriever smile.  He does the golden retriever ‘lean’ when you’re reading the paper and he thinks you really need to give him some attention instead.  He also is still talking – it’s like a very soft gentle woof.  I don’t know how he learned this, but it’s very engaging.  He will talk to you to remind you that it’s time to eat, maybe occasionally to let you know that he’d like to go outside, and sometimes he just talks to himself as he rolls on his back and squirms around on the carpet.

He’s a great dog – a good sized dog who like to get a hug, have his ears scratched and he enjoys an occasional good rub on his tummy (he likes that a lot!).  If you think Tucker would be a good fit for your household, please let your placement advisor know.
