This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Hudson is one big (100 lbs. ideal weight), beautiful, loving, 2+-year-old purebred male Golden. He came to us after an extended stay in a boarding facility. You see, Hudson is a dog that has been given a bad rap, so nobody stepped up to foster him. He supposedly is a hard-to-handle, uncontrollable dog. He supposedly is a dog that doesn't get along with other dogs, chews up remote controls, resource guards, you name it. After one week in our home, I can honestly say all that bad stuff is not the dog we are seeing. Hudson surely is a young guy that needs special handling and he is a guy that needs an experienced dog owner to provide leadership and training. He also is a guy that needs lots of exercise and lots of attention. But inside this is one wonderful, affectionate boy.
OK, here is what we have learned about Hudson:
- Hudson absolutely loves people.
- He is very smart and treat-motivated, which make him easy to train. He is absolutely the best dog walking at "heel." He is good at "sit," pretty good at "stay," but needs more work with recall ("come"). He doesn't have a high prey drive and is fairly calm when approaching rabbits while on his walks.
- He is crate trained and respects baby gates.
- He doesn't have any storm or separation anxieties.
- He enjoys being groomed.
- He doesn't beg at the dinner table.
- He doesn't get on furniture.
Before you begin thinking that Hudson is perfect, I have to tell you that he does have some issues. Hudson can get a bit rowdy, especially when he gets overly excited. We're not completely sure what things will set him off yet. Basically, he is sometimes a big, wild child that needs a "time-out." He also has done some trash diving. Paper seems to be his favorite find. He did chew up my favorite pair of socks that were improperly left on the bedroom floor too.
