I'd like to introduce Miss Sadie 14-218.  Sadie came to RAGOM from a shelter in western Wisconsin.  Thank you to RAGOM transport Roger for making the long drive to bring her to me.

Sadie is 8 years old and had been previously spayed. Sadie is a mixed breed. I can't even guess what breeds she could be. Sadie weighs 72 lbs. and is about 10 lbs overweight. Sadie has thick fluffy fur.

I took Sadie in for her RAGOM wellness exam on her second day here.  Sadie was brought up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Sadie did have ear infections, Whip worms, and tested positive for Lyme Disease. The testing positive for Lyme disease only means that she had been bitten by the same type of tick that carries Lyme Disease. She is showing no symptoms of the disease so no treatment is given.  Sadie was treated for the Whip worms and is still being treated for the ear infections. She will be going back to the vet to be sure the worms are gone and for a vaccine booster shot. Her heart and lungs sounded strong and the rest of her body is in good shape other than the extra weight.

When Sadie arrived here she was very stinky and had lots of stinky fur mats. She was very good about letting me trim the mats and give her a double bath. The double bath didn't get rid of all the stink but I didn't want to dry her skin out with more at that time. She also had more mats to trim and the ear medication will dirty her up some , so she will be getting another bath with oatmeal based shampoo.

Sadie met my 2 senior resident dogs, young [15 months] foster dog and 3 house cats with no problems at all. The young foster dog, Skylee 14-136, initiated play with Sadie and Sadie did play some chase and wrestled some.  Sadie does know her name and will come when called. The only other known command she seems to know is "sit". Sadie does pull some when walked with just a flat collar. I will be trying a gentle leader on her to see if that helps.

Sadie was said to have some storm anxiety and fears of other loud noise. We haven't had storms , so I don't yet know if that is true. There have been cars and trucks pass us on walks and she had no reaction to them.  Sadie is also said to love water. I haven't taken her to a lake but she does like to put her feet in the water bucket. I haven't had a chance to kid test Sadie but I;m thinking she will be fine with them. I have neighbors with kids that I will check her with soon.

I kept Sadie in my bedroom the 1st night with the doors closed. She slept fine on the floor the whole night. I gave her free roam of the house the 2nd night and she stayed in the bedroom and adjoining bathroom. Sadie has had no potty accidents in the house since coming here. She will come and bug me and then go stand by the door if she needs to go out . Most times she just goes out with the other dogs on the regular potty breaks.

Sadie has only been with me for a week and is still coming out of her shell some. She is a well behaved gentle dog from what I have seen so far.

Coming up soon is our biggest fund raiser of the year. It is called Goldzilla. This is a very important fund raiser for RAGOM. As you may know, vet bills are very expensive. We take in many dogs every year that require extensive amounts of medical care. Some are hospice care dogs and are not adopted out. The adoption fees we get for dogs, many times don't cover the vet bills for just that dog, let alone the over-runs on the other dogs.

Please consider donating and or pledging and attending Goldzilla.
Goldzilla is Sunday, September 14th at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton.  Visit the website at goldzilla.ragom.org  to read about all the fun activities for you and your dog.

This morning Sadie made a love match with the M-S Family. New Mom is a paralegal. Dad is a certified protection professional who once guarded Sir Anthony Hopkins. Way to go, Sadie Girl!

Foster Mom, resident goldens and cats will miss you.

Special thanks to Barry K. who gave Sadie such a good start at RAGOM.

Sadie attended Goldzilla on September 14 and met her permanent Foster Mom andresident goldens Jake and Suzie. She said a sad and grateful good-bye to the temp foster whose hospitality released her from a local shelter where she might have ended her days.Sadie slept comfortably on the three hour ride up North. She entered the house calmly and was immediately on good terms with Jake and Suzie. The cats were more curious about Sadie than she was about them.

This is what Sadie has told us about herself so far:

• She likes to nap in the bathtub

• She has a good grasp of English and climbs out of the bathtub on request (shower time)

• She sleeps through the night and has had no accidents when left alone for up to 8 hours

• She is playful with Jake, leaping at him, doing mock fang displays and inviting him to chase her around. She looks very smug when he chases her.

All in all, she is a sweet, gentle, cooperative girl who will make a wonderful companion for a lucky adopter.

Hello again Sadie fans,

Since the last update  Sadie made a long trip to another foster only to find out that the foster's resident dog didn't approve of her. Sadie made the long trip back to me the next day. Since then Sadie settled back in here and after a couple days started playing with her younger foster sister Skylee 14-136. Sadie is very tolerant of Sklyee's near constant pestering to play.

Something I have found out about Sadie is that she doesn't like small dogs especially if they bark in her face. This could change possibly if there were slow intros but for now I would say it would be best to keep her away from small dogs if possible. Sadie has had no problems with larger dogs or the house cats. She did lunge a little at my outside cats. Not sure what the difference is. Sadie is fine with the house cats when they are outside. Sadie seems to be a little dominant when meeting new dogs or cats. It seems once she gets to know them, the dominance eases off. She has never tried to dominate my 2 older resident dogs.

Sadie continues to be affectionate to me and is usually close by when I'm in the house. Sadie does this cute smile when I come in from outside. It's like she is showing her teeth but she is happy and her tail is wagging. I'm hoping to get a picture of it.

Sadie's ear treatments are done, so I started trimming her fur and will give her another bath soon. She doesn't seem to fond of me holding her paws, so I may have to take her to my vet to get her claws trimmed. Sadie has very thick fur. My best guess is that she is Golden Retriever- Husky mix. Only a DNA test can tell for sure what breeds she is.

As previously mentioned, Goldzilla is coming up on the 14th of Sept in New Brighton MN. Come join us for the fun. The details are here: goldzilla.ragom.
