Lots of news to share about Turner! He’s now with a new foster family, living in Iowa City, Iowa. His first foster family was very sad to see him go, but right now Iowa City is a good place for Turner to be. He’s getting along famously with his new dog pals and has settled into the household routine within just a few short days. The dog bite wound on his head has healed and the hair is growing back, restoring his handsome good looks. When we took him to the vet earlier this month, we discovered two mysterious lumps and have scheduled surgery mid-June to have them both removed and biopsied. As soon as we get information about the true nature of these mystery lumps, we’ll let you know. Although Turner has only been part of our household for a few weeks, we already know this is a very deserving dog – he’s calm, gentle, and very affectionate. One of his favorite things (next to riding in the car) is draping himself across your lap and looking up into your face with those big eyes and that lovely white face. Occasionally he sneaks in a quick dog kiss on your chin. And sometimes when you pet him he gets so happy he actually squeaks and squeals – I can’t think of another way to describe it. It’s pretty darn cute.
With all this good weather we’ve been having Turner has had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the fenced back yard while we tend to the garden. He’s discovered the pure joy of stalking chipmunks and chasing squirrels; he becomes so fixated on these small creatures, it’s amazing. Sometimes he just stretches out on the deck, perfectly still, waiting for the smallest movement in the shrubs and rocks where he’s seen these chipmunks before. If it weren’t for our fence, I’m positive he’d chase them a good distance. If these chipmunks are smart, they’ll be moving to the neighbors yard shortly.
Turner has wooed all the people he’s met. Vet techs love to coo all over him and he soaks in all the attention. He’s very huggable and very people oriented. He hasn’t shown much interest in the cats he’s seen at the vet or at the groomers, it’s almost like they’re invisible to him – he’s focused on the people. Turner has had a chance to meet a few children and from what we’ve seen so far he seems gentle and very well behaved. We haven’t seen any fear of storms or being alone, he shares toys easily and doesn’t protect his food. He has great manners.
And one more thing – Turner really knows how to welcome you home after you’ve been gone – doesn’t matter if it was a quick trip to the grocery store or maybe something longer, he makes you glad you hurried home!
