I know we haven't had an update on Patzy for a month. We were pretty busy with her nine puppies! Patzy was an incredible Mom to her litter--very determined to keep the pen and puppies clean and also nursing. As they grew, she spent more time out of the pen but would insist on going in to clean up any 'accidents'.
With over 100 visitors coming to help with the puppies, Patzy's fear of people diminished greatly. She would go up to any person for pets-following my resident dogs with little hesitation. Big men, little kids--all were worth meeting for a pet on the head. She knew the daily routine here and became comfortable enough to relax and enjoy being loved and cared for. Her coat filled out and shined from good food. Her feathers started to grow along her tail and legs. She is beautiful.
A foster cannot go through the experiences we have been through and not fall in love with the shy young Momma who is Patzy. We worried together when a little one wasn't feeling well. We shared vanilla ice cream. We whelped and raised nine beautiful GR puppies together. We said goodbye to each of them one by one. And we were both ready for them to move on to their new families.
And then it was Patzy's turn.
I was thrilled when I received the information about a family who was interested in meeting Patzy. They are previous RAGOM adopters, including several Goldens from commercial breeders. The H family has a young playful RAGOM Golden who was missing her previous buddy. Patzy went right up to each family member for a bit of loving. It was a match.
I cried when the adoption day came but I knew that this was the best thing in the world for Patzy. She turned two years old one week before delivering her puppies and needed a young playful dog in her life. She deserved a loving family of her own.
Patzy is now known as Abbey and is settling in nicely--exploring the big fenced yard and beginning to relax enough to play with Malibu.
We are so grateful to this wonderful family for opening their hearts and home to Patzy/Abbey!
Don't look back, Abbey. You are on your way to the Golden life. We couldn't be happier for you.
