Abby is doing great. She is a very sweet and lovable dog. She loves going for walks and walks good on the gentle leader.
She loves riding in the car and going places. We have made a rule to help her become more comfortable with my children here. The rule is now that the children only pet her or pay attention to her when she comes to them. We have also put a halt to the many children coming and going. This has helped and she seems more comfortable here. She is not seeking them out, but does get excited and greets them both when we come home from somewhere.
I feel that Abby would be ok being around little ones every once in a while, but just not everyday. When we have had friends over to play with our children, (which in this house is pretty much everyday) she greets them well and does want to be around what is going on. But then it gets too stressful and she curls up in a corner and sleeps. And on those days, she sleeps pretty much the rest of the day and we cannot even get her to play.
This seems to be Abby's way of handling stress....she does not get wild, chew the wrong things or act up....she just sleeps. This is how she reacts at the vet's office too...she curls up in a ball and tries to sleep. At first I thought she was sick when she got here because she was sleeping so much, but she was just stressed out by all the busy children coming and going.
This is what Abby would love for a new home:
1) Unconditional love....and she will return this ten-fold!
2) Tennis balls to fetch...she loves to fetch.
3) Tugs to chew on and shake like crazy...she loves to shake them side to side and everyone gets a good laugh while she does it.
4) Someone who understands that her fear of loud noises and fast movements in no way makes her a bad dog. She needs someone who is willing to build her confidence and trust. It is just best that she not be in a home where loud noises and people with fast, erratic movements are the norm. (my 5 year old meets the criteria of fast, erratic movements)
5) She is very sweet and gentle. She does like to mouth when she gets excited and we are working on that. When we come home from somewhere and she gets excited to see us, we give her a toy to carry around in her mouth and we only pet her if she has the toy in her mouth. This way it gives her something to do with her mouth when she is excited other than mouth us.
If you feel you can give Abby a safe and loving home please tell RAGOM! She would be forever grateful!
