Although you were only with us a year, you packed in as much as most dogs do in years. How many tennis balls did you chase and catch perfectly every time? You were the alpha and if your Dad's truck rolled you made sure you were in it. You were my shadow EVERY STEP I TOOK.
Our lifestyle changed forever when you arrived. No more leaving shoes, socks, or tea towels as they would disappear into your mouth. You would sit impatiently waiting for your ball to be thrown or to get the most attention. You were the only one who ever came in the front door if I wasn't there to let you right in.
Last night when I awoke to the sound of one of your seizures, I couldn't believe it. The violent shaking, the foaming of your mouth was horrific. As I tried to calm you as I had done so many times before, it was different this time. Your tongue was still in your mouth. The jolts were more severe than ever before. And it lasted and lasted and lasted.
Now, our sweet Riley, we are left to go on without you. Tennis balls are strewn all over the yard and house without you to scoop them up. My tennis shoes are chewed up along with your dad's remote. Bear is so nervous without you, he can't settle down. His brother is gone and he is left alone as we are.
Our hearts are in a million pieces. You were such a puppy still. We will treasure you forever!
