Bonkers 10-217

Profile

Please welcome Bonkers to the Ragom family.  Many thanks to Karen and Cindy who had a big hand in getting her here from Iowa, and making her feel good.  She smells beautiful, and has to feel so much better.  I am sure the critters have built many a nest from all the fur that was brushed out of her.

She is a 10 year old golden mix, but do not let that age fool you.  She acts very much like a 5 year old.  We will be heading to the vet later in the week.  Hopefully only good news to report.

Please watch for an update later in the week.

Hi .. this is Harley/08-195 and Bonkers/010-217 .... we just wanted to say that we are happy living together in Iowa. We are "copying" each other in every way! When one gets petted, the other one is right there and "needs" to get petted too. I, Bonkers, just LOVE to get in the car first ... then we, Harley and I, fight over who gets where first. Mom and Dad call me Mrs. Crewitz because I just HAVE to sit in the middle and observe everything that goes on outside. I have taken over the console and rest my head on it. When Harley sees HIS chance, he gets me out of the way and gets HIS place in the middle, it was HIS place first! ..... then I am content to "rest my head on Harley" and he lets me do that!

I have also taken over Amber's chair in my human sister's room .... NOBODY has sat on that chair until I came! That's why Mom and Dad believe I am a mix since they never had a pure Golden Retriever that sat on this chair since they do not know how to curl up!!!

We got some new toys for Christmas from our human brother ... they are long skunks, of all things!! ... BUT Harley is carrying them around since they squeak!! I cannot touch them ... they are his and his alone! ..... In one word .. we both are happy and that's what is it all about! Right? ....... Love, Harley and Bonkers

Bonkers 10-217 and Harley 08-195 ..... Hi this is Bonkers!  I found a forever home in Iowa!  Got here on Aug. 28, my new Mom and Dad came all the way to the Cities just to meet me with my RAGOM brother Harley and off we went, together with two other dogs transported to Waterloo and met there by a foster mom from Cedar Rapids (who kept one of the dogs but the other one went further to Solon to his foster mom) to my new home in Iowa!  It was a very long ride but I managed it in stride! I tried to hog the front seat which normally is occupied by my brother Harley, and he was not too gracious when I took HIS seat!  That was Lesson #1 --- do NOT assume to take a seat that is already occupied by your brother --- unless you really want to get put in your place/like I was!  So, I have learned a lot in a week ... to share, to get along with my brother, to let my brother pass without snapping at him, to sleep where I am told and NOT to sleep on HIS bed!  I am very very stubborn and listen to commands only if I wish to, something which does not go over too well!  I do not like to be brushed on my rear or my tail ... I snap then at whoever is brushing me or gets my hair tufts ... something I learned is a big NO NO!  Sometimes I forget it and then I get yelled at --- something I definitely do not like and I pretend then not to listen at all, which is Lesson #2 ---- LISTEN!  So I try to be good but sometimes I forget but with a lot of love and patience and understanding on the part of my new Mom and Dad --- I will succeed!  Yesterday we went for a long ride to the Amish and I shared the seat with Harley and was one heart and one soul with him.  I even put my head on HIM ... that is when he was not sharing the seat with me!

So, I am learning and I know I am loved and I found my forever home in Iowa!

Hey..hey..hey… how do you spell busy? B-O-N-K-E-R-S. That’s me. I was very lucky to have been chosen to be a furry new member of an Iowa couple. Not only are they retired (YAY someone home with me all the time) but they also have another Ragom dog named Harley.

Here is my new brother, Harley. Handsome dude huh?

They also happen to be Ragom volunteers. And transporters at that. You know how much I love that car and rumor has it that Harley and I travel along on transports. Whew Hew!! I love it. He and I are still working on who gets the middle of the seat in the back and gets to put their head thru the front seats on the console. On the way back to Iowa, we shared. I’m learning I have to do that now. I think it will be ok.

I was very blessed to be lucky enough to come into Ragom. Just like it takes a village to raise a child, sometimes it takes a village to foster and vet (Thanks Kimmer) Miss Bonkers.

Here is a picture of one of my silly foster Mom and me!

Thank you Ragom. I am nothing but BIG smiles now.

I love being loved!

Thanks for following my story. Don’t you love happy endings?

Hey Miss Bonkers here. Just checking in with an update.  I know it has been a while since I have updated you.  First off, I like the name Bonkers.  So Bonkers it is.  FM thought maybe I could become “Bonnie”, but you are who you are.  Ya know?  So crazy as I am sometimes, it fits. But I can snuggle and be your best buddy too!

I have been to the vet sooo many times and let me tell you I DO NOT LIKE IT!  First off I had to have my anal glands expressed.  OUCH!!  That was very painful.  Chances are they were full because of poor nutrition or stress.  In my case it might be both.  All my bloodwork has checked out with the exception of my thyroid.  That was just a little off so they want to do a thyroid panel on me.  If I happen to need medication for this, it is a relatively cheap medication.

I have really settled into foster care.  I know the routine, and I enjoy time with my foster Mom and Dad.  I live with Waldo who happens to be a cat.  I don’t mind him at all, but I sure would like to catch that rabbit outside under the evergreen tree. Some day I will catch him snoozing, and all bets are off.  No guarantees.  FM wonders what I will do if we meet face to face.  Not sure…

You might notice in my picture I have a gentle leader on.  I do so well with it. Everyone is amazed.  Not sure why.  I am a very smart girl, and love people.  If there is a chance you will take me somewhere whether it be a walk or a ride in the car, I am game.  Aren’t I beautiful?

If you would like to meet me, send your placement advisor a note.  I heard this week we are going to try the wading pool. We’ll see how I feel about that. It certainly is hot enough for a cool swim. But will I?

Stay tuned and check back

Hey all

Miss Bonkers here. I had a TERRIBLE week.  I went to the vet, and found out my anal glands were full and infected.  It took 3 vet techs and a muzzle on me to get them expressed.  Do you know how to spell OUCH? It was horrible.  I was very sore when I left (and a little stinky too) so I came home to chill before I had to go back to the vet 2 days later for my normal check up.  Well let me tell you what a good memory I have.  I remembered immediately the pain I felt when I had been there 2 days previously.  So I went in reluctantly, but my anxiety level was pretty high already. It took the doctor 2 hours just to do a physical exam.  She was SO NICE AND PATIENT, but after 2 hours I was ready to go home.  I began to feel anxious again, and it was decided that was enough for the day.  I still need to have a blood draw for a heartworm check, and to be micro chipped.  Whew! If I could just get that done, I would be finished!  Will keep you posted on how I do next time.

Sooo dirty before my bath!

Hey……….. where is everyone?  Bonkers (Bonnie) here.  Foster Mom was sure that when I had my update posted that applicants would be filling our inbox with requests to see me. So far not a one. I am scheduled to go to the vet on Friday. I am pretty sure everything will check out.

Foster Mom says I will make the perfect companion. I absolutely LOVE to go anywhere. (Well, maybe not the vet. We’ll see)  I ride very well in the car, and yet I am happy to lie next to you and watch a movie.  Maybe even share a little popcorn.  I’m looking forward to starting my new life.  Want to share it with me?

Hoping to hear from you SOON.

Love

Bonnie
