Rose 05-168

Profile

6/4/05: Rose arrived at my home today with her sister, Lily. They are 14 week old sisters and have mange. Fortunately, the type of mange they have can be treated and is NOT contagious. They are little love bugs ? very sweet and friendly. Rose seems to be the quieter of the two and likes to give hugs ? if I am sitting on the ground, she wants to put her front paws on my shoulders. She will quickly learn that even more love comes her way when all four paws are on the ground. She saw my horse, and while her sister, Lily, began to bark, Rose ran for safety.

So far, I have crated them for a short period of time, and they curled up together and went to sleep. They have been having fun playing with all the soft toys, splashing in the baby pool and running around the yard with my other dogs.

Of the two, Rose has less hair loss.

More later as I get to know these girls.

Good Evening

It's with profound sadness I update you to let you know sweet Rose/05-168 crossed over the rainbow bridge early in the morning this past Monday. She passed peacefully in her sleep on her own. She was 12 1/2 years old and her health was failing so we knew it was coming soon. We did all we could for her but it was her time. We are so grateful for her and the last 12 years we had with her. I still swear I hear her in the house. She has joined our other Goldens in heaven and we know she is whole again and full of life.

We Love & Miss You Rose!

It has been almost 3 years since we adopted Rosie Girl and we just wanted to let you know that she is doing very well.  She is a wonderful addition to our family.  She and her Golden Sister Lily had a great day on the water running and chasing sticks and of course chasing each other.  A lot of time was spent jumping off the boat dog, swimming and napping in the grass.  Attached is a picture of Rosie with her human brother.

Thank you

Christine S.

Rose continues to flourish. She is growing back soft, golden fluff on her bald patches. These puppies are so smart – sometimes when she is excited, she will jump up on me, then think “oops!” and quickly sit down. They have been so fast to learn that they get more attention and loving when they keep four on the floor.

Last weekend, Rose and her sister attended the RAGOM Iowa picnic with me and had a great time meeting new friends (human and canine). They rode very nicely in the car on the 1 hr trip, got along with everyone they met and had more treats in one day than they normally get in days. They slept for a long time that afternoon!

Yesterday, I had 9 kids here – ages 2 through 11 years. Running, laughing, screaming, playing – all over the yard – and the puppies played along with them. They tried to kiss the kids and definitely wanted attention, but did not knock over any little ones, nor did they jump up on a small child. I was very proud of them. Rose is not at all nippy with people, even when excited, and is learning what things in the house and yard are for chewing, and what things are definitely NOT to be chewed. As with all puppies, she will need to be watched and taught, with patience and positive reinforcement, what to chew. She is interested in learning all about the world – using all her senses – and needs to be with a family who has the patience (and sense of humor when a mistake happens) to help her learn how to live in a home. She does not have accidents in the house, although at this point, it is more me being trained than her being 100% reliable….but a nice routine, positive reinforcement and a situation in which she can only succeed will make her into a dog who is totally and completely trustworthy about where she chooses to eliminate.

Rose loves to play with other dogs – chase, tug of war, wrestling. She gets along with all the different dog personalities in this house, which isn’t a claim that all my foster dogs can make! She is a bit much for cats, as she wants to play rough with them, too, so she will need some further training to co-exist with a cat. It can definitely be done, I know, as I have dogs and cats sleeping together, and even washing each other’s faces in the evening.
